lifETIME CDT
The Centre for Human Specific Research is proud to support the lifETIME CDT – a leading UK training programme dedicated to developing the next-generation of innovation leaders in drug discovery and regenerative medicine.

About the lifETIME CDT
The lifETIME (Engineered Tissues for Discovery, Industry and Medicine) CDT is a partnership between the University of Glasgow, the University of Birmingham, Aston University and CÚRAM – Science Foundation Ireland. It has been set up to train interdisciplinary researchers spanning engineering, chemistry, physics, mathematics, and biology to develop advanced in vitro tissue models, sensing technologies, and diagnostic tools. By bridging these key areas, the programme aims to create more human-specific in vitro systems to improve drug screening and replace animal models.

Training Future Leaders in Human-Specific Research
Over a four-year programme, students complete a lab-based PhD while also receiving tailored skills training designed to enhance their ability to engage with key stakeholders across industry, the NHS, charities, funders, and regulators. This cohort-based training approach seeks to develop a UK-wide community of highly skilled researchers equipped to drive innovation and deliver real-world impact.
Through enhanced training opportunities that complement institutional resources, lifETIME aims to ensure students are equipped to excel in their research and transition smoothly into successful careers in academia, industry, or beyond.
