Our scientists were out in force at the Animal Free Research UK drop-in event in Parliament yesterday, hosted by Steve Race MP.
Our CEO and Public Affairs team talked to dozens of MPs and peers about Herbie’s Law, with our scientists on hand to demonstrate the innovative human-specific research methods that exist to support the phasing out of animal testing.

Connecting our Scientists with MPs
Dr Laura Sinclair from the University of Exeter, Josh Abram and Dr Adrian Biddle both from the Queen Mary University of London, were some of our scientists in attendance at the well-received drop-in event.
They came along to share the innovative, human-focused research methods that they utilise daily in their important work towards the phasing out of animal testing.
Bringing together parliamentarians and leading scientific and legal experts who adopt a human-focused approach in their work is paramount to driving change. Thanks to the support of our scientists, attendees had the chance to learn first-hand about pioneering replacement techniques and technologies and how they aid the acceleration of more reliable, effective, and ethical treatments for human disease.
Carla Owen, CEO at Animal Free Research UK says:
“Parliamentary engagement like this drop-in event is crucial to building understanding of what is now scientifically possible without the use of animals. Giving MPs the opportunity to hear directly from scientists working with these technologies is essential to improving awareness of both their potential and why this change is so important. Herbie’s Law provides a clear, collaborative framework to support researchers, regulators and policymakers in accelerating the shift to modern, human-specific science, and we are encouraged by the growing cross-party support.“
